
Job opportunity - Community-Based Monitoring Student

The opportunity
Based out of Winnipeg with travel throughout southern Manitoba, this full-time term position is 32 hours per week, $23.00/hour, from May 5 – Aug 25, 2025.
LWF has permanently adopted a reduced workweek, with staff working 32 hours/week. Our reduced workweek comes with the expectation that employees will continue to maintain 100% of the productivity of a 40-hour workweek. As such, employees will continue to receive the pay they would receive for 40 hours of work. Accordingly, the hourly wage for this position has been increased from $18.40 to $23.00.

Responsibilities
Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Community-Based Monitoring Student will support the field activities of the Lake Winnipeg Community-Based Monitoring Network, enabling the collection of robust and credible citizen-generated phosphorus data. Tasks will include:
- Conducting responsive water sampling activities in southern Manitoba, using LWCBMN protocols and equipment.
- Supporting the collection of responsive flow and water level data in southern Manitoba.
- Monitoring water levels online through the Water Survey of Canada website.
- Managing the database to ensure data traceability.
- Tracking inventory and delivering equipment to volunteer samplers; picking up collected samples for analysis.
- Scheduling and conducting field audits with LWCBMN volunteers.
- Supporting the communication of program outcomes to network volunteers and partners.
- Representing LWF in a manner consistent with its mission, vision, and values.
- Other duties as required.
Your qualifications
The successful candidate will have:
- A combination of education/experience in a relevant field (e.g. science; environmental science; engineering).
- Exceptional organizational skills and proven attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability.
- Energy, enthusiasm, and resourcefulness.
- Ability to work well in a diverse team environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
- Ability to undertake physical fieldwork activities.
- Experience conducting fieldwork and managing data is an asset.
- Knowledge of the Lake Winnipeg ecosystem and issues affecting lake health is an asset.
- Registered driver’s licence and comfortable driving in rural Manitoba.
