walk for water frequently asked questions

What is Walk for Water?

Walk for Water is a family-friendly community fundraising walk in support of a healthy Lake Winnipeg.

Where and when is the 2024 walk happening?

Walk for Water Victoria Beach & District is taking place on Sunday, Aug. 11, in the community of Victoria Beach, located on the eastern shore of Lake Winnipeg. This outdoor event starts and ends at the Arthur Vincent Memorial Stage located on the Victoria Beach Village Green. Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m. and the walk begins at 10 a.m.

Do I need to pre-register?

No. If you plan to walk in the event, simply arrive at the designated check-in time and volunteers will assist you then. If you are unable to participate in the walk, you can still donate online through the 2024 campaign page, or collect pledges in person, then mail or deliver them, along with your completed pledge form, to LWF’s Winnipeg office.

Is there a fee to participate?

There is no fee to participate in Walk for Water, however all participants are encouraged to make a personal donation or collect donations from their friends, family and neighbours. Walk for Water 2024 pledge forms can be found at various Victoria Beach locations – or print your own copy at home using our home printer-friendly form!

Where do I park?

Paid daily parking is available in the main lot located just before the gates into Victoria Beach. Victoria Beach is a vehicle-restricted area; you can choose to walk to the Village Green from the parking lot or ask a lot attendant call you a taxi.

How long is the walk route?

The 2024 walk route is a 2.5 km circle along the streets and lanes of the community, leaving and arriving back to the Village Green.

Is Walk for Water a race? Will I be timed?

No. The walk is open to people of all ages and abilities, and we encourage you to participate at whatever pace and to whatever extent feels right for you. Those who aren’t able to participate in the actual walk are welcome to bring lawn chairs to the green to be part of the event.

What should I bring to Walk for Water?

Dress for the weather (sun screen, rain gear, etc.), wear comfortable shoes and bring a reusable water bottle if you wish. If you have a Walk for Water t-shirt from previous years, we encourage you to wear it again. New t-shirts will be available to pick up prior to the walk, if you need one.

As well, don’t forget to bring your completed pledge form and collected donations! To make it easier for our staff and volunteers that morning, if possible we ask that you please bring your completed form and donations in an envelope or resealable bag, with the total dollar amount written on the outside.

Can I ride my bike/push a stroller/participate in a wheelchair?

Yes. To make sure everyone stays safe, we ask those choosing to bike to follow the rules of the road and wear a helmet. Please note, the Walk for Water route follows mainly the gravel streets and paths but does also include a couple grassy areas and the occasional hill.

Can I bring my dog to Walk for Water?

Can my office/company/club get involved?

How are Walk for Water proceeds used?

Do you provide charitable receipts for the donations I collect?

What happens if it’s raining on the day of the walk?

Walk for Water will proceed as planned in the rain, however, if there is a risk of lightning the walk will be cancelled for safety reasons.
