Lake Winnipeg

LWF offers free educational presentations in English and French about Lake Winnipeg and its watershed to school (K-12) and community groups.*

These engaging presentations are accompanied by a PowerPoint slide show and are tailored to different age groups and curriculum concepts. Each presentation includes:

  • Information about Lake Winnipeg and its watershed;
  • An introduction to the root causes of the current health challenges facing the lake (e.g. algal blooms, invasive species);
  • The history of LWF – who we are and what we do;
  • An overview of the Lake Winnipeg Health Plan (LWF’s evidence-based...

As part of our mission to educate Manitobans on the challenges and opportunities facing this significant ecosystem, LWF is pleased to assist teachers in exploring curriculum-based water issues that pertain to Lake Winnipeg and its watershed by subsidizing the cost of student transportation and/or entrance fees to approved field trip venues.

Eligibility criteria:

LWF's education funding is available to Manitoba teachers. Field trips on Lake Winnipeg themes may include, for example, World Water Day activities (March 22), visits to Oak Hammock Marsh, Fort Whyte Alive or the Manitoba Museum’s Lake...

The Lake Winnipeg Health Plan recognizes our shared responsibility for the health of Lake Winnipeg and its watershed, and promotes collective investment in their protection and restoration.

Collaboratively created with the guidance of LWF's Science Advisory Council and released in January, 2013, it translates science into action to address the root causes of harmful algal blooms and restore the balance of this vital ecosystem.

Walk for Water is the largest grassroots fundraising event in support of a healthy Lake Winnipeg. Taking place in lakeside communities, these family-friendly, pledged walks are great way to be a part of the solution – and a fun way to spend a day at the lake!

Participating is easy: Use our Walk for Water pledge form to collect donations from friends, family, co-workers, teammates and other lake-lovers in your life.
