The wonder of new discovery is a special thing.
We all remember the first time we had the chance to experience our natural ecosystems: The first time we went out in a boat on open water. The first time we saw a dragonfly up close. The first time we caught tadpoles in a bucket.
We all remember the first time we truly understood that we are all...
Thank you for your support over the past year. As our network grows, so too does our ability to speak out for the health of Lake Winnipeg. We look forward to accomplishing even more together in the new year!
Classic Lake Winnipeg folk songs get a musical makeover
We’re excited to announce a creative new fundraiser for LWF!
Love, Lake Winnipeg: A tribute to the songs of Sol Sigurdson is a collaborative project featuring select tracks from Riverton singer-songwriter Sol Sigurdson’s 1970 cult classic, The Lake Winnipeg Fisherman, reimagined by contemporary Manitoba musicians DJ Co-op, Mise en Scene, Scott Nolan and John K. Samson, and Jess Reimer.
Produced by John K. Samson, former frontman of acclaimed Winnipeg band The Weakerthans, this limited-edition four-song EP will be released on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016, at an exclusive benefit concert in Winnipeg at the West End Cultural Centre (WECC). As an expression of our thanks – and in celebration of LWF’s 10-year anniversary – all audience members in attendance will receive free copies!
Still looking for the perfect gift? Our fundraising efforts include product sales!
From limited-edition vintage fine art prints to gorgeous sterling-silver necklaces to tickets to our upcoming benefit concert, we’ve got something for everyone on your list. Or, consider making a donation to LWF in honour of someone special – you’ll be making a healthy Lake Winnipeg possible and you’ll receive a charitable tax receipt for donations of $20 or more.

Thank you to everyone who joined the global giving movement on Dec. 1!
Because of the enthusiasm of LWF members and supporters who helped spread the word about Giving Tuesday 2015 and/or donated to our campaign via our special online donation page or through other channels, we came within $200 of our $2,000 goal! We truly appreciate your generosity.
For generations, Lake Winnipeg has given us so much. On Dec. 1, let’s give something back.
Occurring on the first Tuesday after the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday – immediately after the sales frenzy of Black Friday and Cyber Monday – Giving Tuesday is a day to celebrate and support charities.
We’ve set ourselves an ambitious 2015 goal: raise $2,000 in 24 hours.
We’ve also created a special online donation page that makes giving even easier. (It’s already live, should you prefer to join those who have already begun the celebration.)
Looking to leverage the impact of your gift? On Dec. 1, online donations made through CanadaHelps.org or GivingTuesday.ca using Interac Online will be matched* up to $25 per donation!
Starting today and for the rest of the week, we’ll be using our website, along with our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts, to celebrate some of the people who are helping make a healthy Lake Winnipeg possible by giving to LWF: People like Pam and Rob, who made a donation to LWF in lieu of guest favours at their wedding; Ella, whose connection to Lake Winnipeg spans nine decades; and Gabby and Eddie, two elementary students whose efforts have inspired their entire school to take action.
These passionate supporters share a commitment to being part of the solution. We hope their stories will inspire you to get involved, too.
Thank you for your continued interest in the health of Lake Winnipeg,
The LWF team
* Matching dollars will be granted on a first come first served basis, starting at 8 a.m. CT and continuing up to a maximum total of $10,000 in matching dollars.
