Important information regarding COVID-19 scams

Dear LWF supporter,

We’ve noticed suspicious activity on one of our social media accounts. The Canadian government website has a list of known COVID-19 scams asking for money or personal information. Unfortunately, fraudsters may also try to solicit donations on behalf of charitable organizations.

We would never solicit any personal financial information or ask for payments directly through social media or email. While we do promote fundraising campaigns through these channels, we will always provide links to secure donation options. If you’d like to support a healthy Lake Winnipeg, the best way to make a secure online donation at this time remains through CanadaHelps or by donating through our website. After a successful donation, you will receive an email confirmation. Depending on which online donation method you choose, your charitable tax receipt will be included within the body of the email or accessible through a link. If you have any questions or need assistance making an online donation, please don’t hesitate to contact us – we’re happy to help!

This is a time to be diligent and skeptical. Always check the sender’s email address, and never click on links from untrusted or unverified sources. If you have been a victim of fraud, please contact your local police or report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

The COVID-19 pandemic is a rapidly evolving situation. As an organization guided by science, we are monitoring public health information from credible sources. More information about how we are adapting to changing circumstances can be found on our website.

Thank you and stay safe,

The LWF team
