LWF’s latest newsletter, project funding opportunities and more!

Dear LWF supporter,
Extra! Extra!
The Fall & Winter 2016 edition of our newsletter, The Watershed Observer, is out!
In this issue, you’ll find information on our emerging community-based monitoring network, details about groundbreaking microplastics research, and examples of how Manitoba kids have been taking action. Plus, we acknowledge the many individuals and organizations who are helping to ensure Lake Winnipeg is healthy and safe, now and for future generations. We hope you enjoy the read!
LWF Grants Program
Need funding? Our Grants Program supports projects working to improve water quality in Lake Winnipeg and its watershed with grants ranging from $500 to $10,000!
We are currently accepting submissions from non-governmental organizations, charitable foundations, educational institutions, environmental/community groups, businesses or farms, local governments and First Nations. More details on our Grants Program and downloadable application forms are available on our website. Please note, submissions for 2016 grants are due at 5 p.m. on Dec. 16.
Speak up for water
In advance of Budget 2017, the Manitoba government is soliciting public input on how provincial spending should be prioritized. This is an opportunity to use your voice to speak up for the health of our shared waters.
We encourage you to submit a comment in writing or online and let decision makers know our lakes and rivers matter. Consider recommending:
- A budget increase for Sustainable Development, the provincial department responsible for protecting and managing the health of our lakes and rivers
- Investments in strong regulation and strict enforcement to increase protection for Manitoba’s threatened wetlands
Budget submissions will be accepted until Dec. 1, 2016. Not sure how to craft your letter or email? Page 10 of our latest newsletter contains helpful tips on how to effectively communicate with decision makers.
Thank you for your interest in Lake Winnipeg,
The LWF team
