LWF’s Community-Based Monitoring Coordinator Chelsea Lobson has received a national honour!

On May 3, BioTalent Canada announced Chelsea as the winner of the 2018 MAGNUS Catalyst Award for Top New Hire!

BioTalent Canada is a national not-for profit industry association which acts as the HR partner of the Canadian biotechnology industry, working to ensure that the bio-economy has access to the talent it needs. Its many wage subsidy programs to hire recent graduates continue to be a successful way to ensure this access.

MAGNUS Catalyst Award applicants were evaluated along four criteria: their contribution to their employer’s company culture and sense of innovation, their contribution to achieving a team’s or company’s business objective and the degree to which they assisted their employer in overcoming a business challenge. Chelsea was selected from award finalists including David Ness from ERA Environmental Management in Montreal, Que., and David Rowbotham from STEMCELL Technologies in Vancouver, B.C.

In her role with LWF, Chelsea is responsible for the development and operation of the Lake Winnipeg Community-Based Monitoring Network (LWCBMN). Working collaboratively with scientists, local watershed groups and citizens, she co-ordinates day-to-day monitoring efforts, analyzes collected water samples and shares findings back to the community.

You can learn more about LWCBMN here.

“Chelsea brings enthusiasm and expertise to freshwater science,” says LWF executive director Alexis Kanu. “She is playing a key leadership role in local community-based monitoring and citizen water stewardship – and her efforts are producing meaningful results. We’re thrilled to have such a dynamic young scientist on our team.”

Congratulations to Chelsea on this well-deserved award!
