Dear LWF supporter,
For many of us, this has not been a typical summer. Wherever you are and however you’ve spent the season, we hope you’re staying healthy and safe.
Extra! Extra! Our newsletter is here!
The latest edition of our newsletter, The Watershed Observer, is out! In this issue, you’ll find a message from our new President, information about a soon-to-launch federal water agency (and how you can help shape its mandate), and a conversation about our shared treaty rights and responsibilities – plus more! An online version of our newsletter is available on our website.
Bike to the Beach 2020: a summer success
A new event for LWF, Bike to the Beach, was a record-breaking success!
Forty-three cyclists took part in the 2020 founders’ ride on Aug. 7. These determined riders crushed the130 km route from Winnipeg to Victoria Beach (helped along by ideal weather conditions), and inspired an outpouring of community support, raising over $57,000 for Lake Winnipeg!
Thank you to Bike to the Beach 2020 sponsors Pollard Family Foundation, Canada Life, Quadrant Private Wealth, Price Industries and Spark Power, and to all the riders, volunteers and supporters who helped make this event so memorable. Head to our Facebook page to see photos from the day!
There’s still time to get involved …for Lake Winnipeg
We really missed connecting with our supporters at our annual Walk for Water events, which were cancelled this year in response to the pandemic – but it’s been inspiring to watch lake-lovers get involved with our 2020 summer fundraising campaign …for Lake Winnipeg.
Activities so far have included individual and small group walks, community bike tours, jewelry, art and used book sales – and even a yoga happy hour!
Until Sept. 30, you can support the campaign by donating online, or by organizing your own personal fundraiser.
Thank you to our 2020 campaign sponsors Johnston Group, Quintex Services and Desjardins Financial Security Investments (Kilcona), and thank you to everyone who has taken part so far, whether as an event organizer, a participant or a donor.
As all of us continue to adapt to new circumstances, LWF remains committed to translating science into solutions for the health of Lake Winnipeg. Thank you for making this work possible.
