Dear LWF supporter,
Extra! Extra!
The Fall & Winter 2018 edition of our newsletter, The Watershed Observer, is out!
In this issue, you’ll learn about Canada’s newest UNESCO World Heritage Site, read expedition kayaker Alex Martin’s first-hand account of a solo paddle around Lake Winnipeg’s shoreline and visit an innovative soil health project in southwest Manitoba – plus more!
You’ll note that on Page 12, we invite you to learn more about the need to prioritize Winnipeg sewage treatment. In the lead-up to Winnipeg’s election, we engaged with both candidates and voters on this important issue. An online version of a brochure summarizing this topic is available here.
Pre-election polling results found nearly two-thirds of Manitoba adults agree that upgrading Winnipeg’s north end sewage treatment plant should be “a very urgent priority.” In the months ahead, we will continue to advocate Winnipeg’s newly elected city council to implement an affordable interim retrofit to this facility that would effectively remove algae-causing phosphorus from our wastewater.
Thank you for your interest in Lake Winnipeg,
The LWF team
