Walk for Water

You are here

Walk for Water is the largest grassroots fundraising event in support of a healthy Lake Winnipeg. Taking place in several lakeside communities (and online), it’s a great way to be a part of the solution — and a fun way to spend a day at the lake!

New for 2016: get involved online!

We listened to the many supporters who asked for an online fundraising option to share with their social media networks.  Walk for Water 2016 online is an easy way to collect donations from lake-lovers across Manitoba and beyond! This year, we're aiming to raise $5,000 online - and we need your help to do it. Join our online campaign by:

  • Signing up – click here to create an online Walk for Water 2016 team or join as an individual.
  • Reaching out – email your friends and family and share your campaign on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social networks.
  • Telling your story – let people know why water matters to you by sharing your favourite lake memory or personalizing your page with pictures!

How to participate on the ground:

1. Download the Walk for Water 2016 pledge form here and print it. You can also pick up pledge forms throughout several lakeside communities where they’ll be available at various businesses – or you can get them from LWF’s Winnipeg office! (Contact us here.)

2. Use the form to collect pledges for your walk; you can ask your friends, family, co-workers, teammates, or anyone else who cares about Lake Winnipeg and wants to be part of the solution! LWF provides charitable receipts for donations of $20 or more. (Make sure you collect accurate and complete information from your pledgers to ensure that we can issue a receipt!)

3. Bring your completed pledge form and the money you raised to one of our Walk for Water events. (See the 2016 schedule below for a walk near you.) Remember to wear comfortable shoes and bring a reusable water bottle!

4. LWF volunteers will be on site to help you register before the walk begins. As a Walk for Water 2016 participant, you’ll receive a free LWF t-shirt – and the chance to win prizes!

We’ll be posting periodic updates in the lead-up to this year’s walks – check back often to stay updated.
