LWF was founded in 2005, making this year our 10th anniversary!

We’re proud of our grassroots beginnings and the many passionate supporters whose dedication to our collective vision of a clean, healthy Lake Winnipeg and watershed, now and for future generations, has shaped LWF into what we are today.

We’re also proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish over the past decade: educating citizens, funding projects, and collaborating with governments, researchers and other stakeholders.

We’ve made progress – but our work is far from finished. Lake Winnipeg continues to face serious challenges. Its health is at a tipping point. Perhaps more than ever, our great lake needs a strong, united voice for change. The next 10 years will be critical ones. We know there’s a role for LWF in future stewardship efforts – and, with your support, we will continue to navigate towards science-based solutions to restore and protect the health of Lake Winnipeg and its watershed.

We’re planning a variety of special events and activities for our 10th year, and will be sharing more information as we finalize all the details.

In the meantime, we want to hear from you! We’ve begun compiling stories and photos from our first decade that we plan to share with our supporters throughout 2015. If you’d like to join us in telling the story of LWF, contact us at info@lakewinnipegfoundation.org.

LWF publishes a newsletter, The Watershed Observer, twice a year. Our most recent edition includes information on our emerging community-based monitoring network, details about groundbreaking microplastics research made possible through our grants program, and helpful tips on how you can speak up for water by reaching out to decision makers.
