Help us educate and inspire others!

A few seconds and a few mouse clicks, and a good idea could become a reality!

We’ve entered the Aviva Community Fund, a three-month competition in which community groups and organizations across the country vie for a share of $1 million in project funding from insurance provider Aviva Canada. Now, we need your help!

Here’s how it works: There are five funding categories, two budget categories and three qualifying rounds. In each qualifying round, the 40 ideas which receive the most votes in each of the categories will move on to the semi-finals. Those 120 ideas will then be voted on again to determine 40 finalists, which will be reviewed by a panel of judges who will ultimately choose the winners.

All ideas that make it to the final judging phase will receive a minimum of $5,000, and several wildcard prizes are up for grabs, too!

LWF is competing in the Environment & Sustainability small budget ($0 - $50,000) categories. Our idea is called Saving Lake Winnipeg: Inspiring and Celebrating Action!

We’re seeking funding to make a series of unique videos that will educate people on the challenges facing Lake Winnipeg, highlight the ways we’re working on science-based solutions, and mobilize a new generation of lake-lovers to get involved and help us save our great lake.

We have a vision AND a plan. With your support, we will create videos to inform, inspire and show a way forward.

The first qualifying round starts today and runs until Oct. 13. Here’s how you can help:

1. Register on the Aviva Community Fund website (here) to become an eligible voter.

2. Vote for our idea! (It's #ACF 19535.) You can vote up to 15 times during each of the three qualifying rounds and you’ll also have 15 votes to use during the semi-finals. If you want, you can use all 15 of your votes on our project, although you can only vote for an idea once a day so, if you want to vote for us repeatedly, you’ll have to spread your votes out.

3. Tell your friends! Share our idea on your social networks and encourage others to vote, too!

By participating in this exciting opportunity, you’ll be helping us inspire positive change throughout the watershed as we work towards a clean, healthy Lake Winnipeg.

LWF publishes a newsletter, The Watershed Observer, twice a year. Our most recent edition includes information on our emerging community-based monitoring network, details about groundbreaking microplastics research made possible through our grants program, and helpful tips on how you can speak up for water by reaching out to decision makers.
